Eco Sustainable Solutions says that, if approved, its plans to upgrade the 16.5 hectares Eco Park at Parley, near Christchurch, will make the site more efficient and sustainable, and help the BCP and Dorset area become more self-sufficient.
The updated proposals from the recycling and renewable energy company include:
- Introducing a state-of-the-art, AI-led materials sorting facility which will remove recyclable materials from local residual waste and allow an additional 25,000 tonnes of recyclable materials to be processed per year.
- Increasing the site’s capacity to recycle green waste and wood waste by 5,000 tonnes each, helping to turn more local materials into products such as compost, soil improvers and biomass fuel which supports the rural economy.
- Enabling the site to deal with more local residual waste by recovering energy from even more local waste by increasing the currently permitted capacity from 60,000 to 105,000 tonnes per year.
- Allowing more local food waste recycling in line with local and national requirements and enabling BCP and Dorset Council waste services to be more self-sufficient.
- Supporting around 30 additional jobs at the site.
- Providing a new office, welfare, visitor and education facility.
Through the recycling and recovery of wastes, the upgraded Eco Park will generate enough electricity to power over 30,000 homes and heat to supply over 10,000 homes each year, while reducing reliance on landfill and avoiding the current need to transport waste long distances for treatment elsewhere.
The public exhibition and open day will take place on Friday May 1 from 2:20pm until 6:30pm at Eco Sustainable Solutions, Chapel Lane, Parley, BH23 6BG.
A planning application is expected to be submitted to BCP Council within the next few months.
