Community Garden Goes for Growth after Eco Donation

Dig this! A much-loved community garden in Bournemouth has thanked a recycling firm for donating more than two tonnes of woodland mulch.

Organisers of Slades Farm Community Garden described the donation from Eco Sustainable Solutions as “fantastic.”

Project co-ordinator Theresa McManus said: “Eco has been a staunch supporter of the garden and we’re very grateful. They come up trumps every time.”

Peter Hardy, Eco’s Commercial Director, added: “This is a brilliant cause which really brings the community together. We’re delighted to play our part in its continuing success.”

Slades Farm Community Garden was set up by Transition Bournemouth in 2012 to help create a sustainable, wildlife friendly community garden, grow vegetables and carry out conservation activities.

More than 100 people are involved in the community initiative but new volunteers are always very welcome.

The garden has work parties with the type of activities available varying with the seasons and the weather.

Activities range from big projects such as pond-digging and making fences to conservation tasks including creating wildlife habitats.

The gardening tasks include sowing, planting, weeding, pruning and harvesting.
