Planning Approval Granted for Eco’s New Biomethane HGV Refuelling Depot

17 November 2025
Our plans for a new low-carbon HGV refuelling depot, powered entirely by locally sourced food waste, have now been approved.

We submitted a planning application for this biomethane refuelling depot at our Eco Park in Parley, and we’re pleased to have received the go-ahead to move forward.

The depot will be fuelled by renewable gas from our new anaerobic digestion (AD) plant, which is due to be commissioned this month (November). This will allow us to supply compressed biomethane as a low-carbon alternative to diesel for heavy goods vehicles — a sector that has traditionally been one of the hardest to decarbonise.

All biomethane supplied through the depot will be produced from food waste collected across BCP, the New Forest, Dorset and the surrounding areas. Once completed, the depot will refuel up to three HGVs at a time and forms a key part of our wider decarbonisation strategy, including the conversion of our own fleet to biomethane.

We estimate the facility will save at least 1,634 tonnes of CO₂ each year.

Our Managing Director, Justin Dampney, said:

“We’re very pleased to receive approval for our biomethane refuelling depot. By using fuel derived from the food waste we process, the depot will help reduce emissions where it’s traditionally been hardest – heavy goods transport. This isn’t just a solution for our fleet. In time, the depot could provide clean fuel for other operators too – all powered by local food waste.”

Biomethane can reduce emissions by up to 85% compared to diesel and is increasingly recognised as a practical low-carbon fuel within logistics and waste sectors.
