Biomass fuel deal cuts carbon emissions by 90 tonnes  (posted 13/02/2009)

Ninety tonnes of carbon will no longer be poured into the atmosphere after a decision by two of Dorset’s greenest companies to work together.

Lush, the Poole-based fresh handmade cosmetics giant, has started to use biomass fuel supplied by Eco Sustainable Solutions.

The company already sends approximately 40 tonnes of waste wood pallets to Eco’s Parley site annually through various waste contractors.

Now the organics recycling firm has landed a deal to supply Lush with up to 50 tonnes of wood fuel each year.

The fuel will be used to power a biomass boiler at Lush’s main manufacturing plant on the Nuffield Industrial Estate in Poole, providing approximately 160kW of heat and 6,000 litres of hot water daily.

“This is good news for us and good news for the planet,” said Ruth Andrade, Lush’s Environmental Officer.

“We are using a renewable and sustainable source of fuel which fits perfectly with our company policy of being as environmentally friendly as possible.”

Justin Dampney, Eco’s Business Development Manager, said: “Biomass fuel is a fast growing, cost effective and environmentally friendly energy source.

“It makes complete sense for companies such as Lush and Eco to pioneer it here in Dorset”
