Eco plays 'walk on' role in high profile IKEA store launch Eco plays 'walk on' role in high profile IKEA store launch  (posted 10/02/2009)

Soil supplied by Dorset’s Company of the Year is being used to landscape the new IKEA store in Southampton.

Eco Sustainable Solutions at Parley has secured the contract to supply 600 tonnes of enriched topsoil for the Swedish company’s 18th UK store.

Thousands of shoppers from across the south are expected to descend on Southampton when the new 34,000 sq m store, covering four floors, opens for business on Thursday, February 12.

Extra police are being drafted in to control the crowds while plans have also been put in place to deal with traffic congestion.

The new store will hold 9,000 products across four floors and also boasts Hampshire’s largest restaurant with 600 seats.

Justin Dampney, Eco’s Business Development Manager, said: “The arrival of IKEA Southampton is without doubt the biggest retailing event on the South Coast this year.

“We’re delighted that Eco is playing a ‘walk on’ role in the store’s high profile launch.”
